Hey, it’s Fei! I’m a seasoned book editor, specializing in fiction, narrative non-fiction, and personal essays; young adult, middle grade, and children’s books; mystery, speculative (sci-fi/fantasy), and commercial novels.

I current work at Cormorant Books, an independent Canadian trade publisher. Numerous books I’ve edited have been critically acclaimed, featured on bestseller lists, or nominated for awards.

Services

Developmental Edit

So you’ve finished drafting your book. Now what?

I can read over your first draft (or second, or third…) and provide a big picture, developmental edit. Through comments on your document and a detailed editorial letter, I’ll provide structural recommendations, suggestions, and ideas to help you:

  • Identify plot holes
  • Improve pacing
  • Maintain characterization, continuity, and timeline consistency
  • Maximize narrative and thematic impact

Line Edit / Copyedit

Ready to fine-tune your manuscript?

I can provide a line edit / copyedit via Track Changes on Microsoft Word (DOC/DOCX) files, which includes:

  • Sentence-level edits for consistency, clarity, and coherence
  • Spelling, punctuation, and grammar corrections
  • Localization to American or Canadian English spelling
  • Light fact-check

I specialize in Chicago Manual of Style (17th and 18th edition), Merriam-Webster American dictionary, and Canadian Oxford dictionary, but I can also work with your preferred style guide or dictionary.

Proofread

Ready for a final polish before publication?

I can provide a proofread via PDF markups, which includes:

  • Formatting and typesetting corrections
  • Spelling, punctuation, and grammar corrections
  • Localization to American or Canadian English spelling
